Martha Wanjiru: Reducing Stigma and Suffering Through Fistula Screening

Martha Wanjiru, Nurse Educator and ToT in Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening and Treatment of Precancerous Lesions Screening, Cervical Advocate and Champion Kiambu County, Kenya, shared a post on LinkedIn:

Intentional. Screen Holistically. As we screen for breast and cervical cancer, let us intentionally include fistula screening.

Women’s health conditions are interconnected-no woman should be left behind. Some women with advanced cervical cancer may develop obstetric or malignant fistula, leading to profound physical, emotional, and social challenges.

By adopting an integrated, all-round screening approach, we can:

Promote early detection. Ensure timely referral and treatment. Reduce stigma and suffering associated with fistula. Improve overall quality of life. Because every woman deserves to be screened, heard, and treated as a whole.”
