Martha Wanjiru on Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening in Churches

Martha Wanjiru, Nurse Educator and ToT in Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening and Treatment of Precancerous Lesions Screening, Cervical Advocate and Champion Kiambu County, Kenya, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Churches are more than places of worship-they are powerful centers of hope, trust, and community transformation.

Yesterday we conducted breast and cervical cancer screening services closer to the people-right where they feel safe, supported, and heard. By using the church as a platform, we are breaking barriers to access, reducing stigma, and reaching women who might otherwise never come for screening.

This is what prevention looks like:

  • Meeting people where they are.
  • Building trust through community.
  • Saving lives through early detection.

As we continue this journey, I am reminded that healthcare is not confined to hospital walls-it thrives in communities. Together, we can make cancer prevention a shared responsibility.”
