Markus Kosch: United by One Shared Goal – To Strengthen Compassionate Care in Oncology

Markus Kosch, Head Oncology Europe and Canada at Daiichi Sankyo Europe GmbH, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Last week, our Compassionate Cancer Care Forum in London brought together an inspiring group of professionals – nurses, patient advocates, caregivers, mental health experts, oncology leaders, and academics. They all were united by one shared goal: to strengthen compassionate care in oncology.

At the heart of our discussions was a simple but powerful insight: compassion is not a mere nice-to-have – it is a core component of quality cancer care.

Through open dialogue and practical workshops, we explored how to better support nurses, who stand on the frontlines of patient care every day. Every day across Europe, clinicians and nurses go above and beyond for their patients – in healthcare systems that are stretched to their limits. Their dedication and resilience are truly remarkable, as they continue to give their best to patients despite the challenges they face.

I’m deeply grateful to everyone who contributed their perspective, their expertise, and their recommendations on what could be improved to this important exchange, especially our steering committee members Sharon Moat, Dr Barry Quinn, Michael West CBE, and John Saunders, as well as patient advocate – as well as my long-term friend – Eva Schumacher-Wulf.

Together, we took meaningful steps toward ensuring that compassion is not only felt by patients – but also sustained among those who dedicate their lives to caring for them.

How can we, as a healthcare community, continue to better support those who care for patients?”
