Marielle Santos McLeod: Learning, Connection, and Advocacy at ASCO GI 2026

Marielle Santos McLeod, Director of Programs and Advocacy at Cancer Hope Network and Patient Research Advocate at SWOG Cancer Research Network, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Attending my first ASCO GI Conference has been an incredible experience! I had the opportunity to sit in on powerful discussions exploring advances in current gastrointestinal (GI) cancer treatments, the growing role of AI in clinical research, and the critical importance of bringing clinical trials to community centers so patients everywhere have equitable access. It was also a pleasure connecting in person with some of the brilliant GI cancer researchers and colleagues I collaborate with through SWOG. Their dedication continues to inspire me and deepen my appreciation for the collaborative nature of cancer research.

Equally rewarding was the chance to catch up with industry partners and build new relationships with patient advocacy organizations who share the same passion for improving outcomes and amplifying patient voices in GI cancer research.

Over the years, I’ve grown tremendously in my understanding and passion for clinical research advocacy. Conferences like ASCO GI not only enrich that knowledge but also reinforce how essential it is for patient advocates to have a voice in the research process — shaping studies that reflect the real-world needs of those we serve.

Grateful for the opportunity, the learning, and the inspiring community that continues to move this important work forward.”
