Boston Children’s Hospital shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Congratulations to Mariella Filbin, MD, PhD, co-director of our Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Brain Tumor Center! She recently received a Mark Foundation Emerging Leader Award for her work on neural activity-driven DNA repair in diffuse midline glioma (DMG), a type of fatal childhood brain tumor. The award includes a three-year grant to help fund this new avenue of research for her lab.
“I am so grateful for this wonderful award, which allows me to take a whole new direction in our lab and figure out how glioma cells hijack an ancient brain-protective mechanism for their own advantage,” says Filbin.
“Understanding this mechanism will unlock a new way to treat our patients with DIPG/DMG and may possibly even hold true for all other brain cancers.”
