“Manchester researchers have developed a new blood test that could help doctors monitor how patients with advanced melanoma are responding to treatment in real time.
The test looks for circulating tumour DNA – tiny fragments of tumour DNA in the bloodstream – and could help clinicians identify whether treatment is working, or whether a change is needed, weeks earlier than conventional scans.
Led by researchers at the Cancer Research UK (CRUK) National Biomarker Centre and Manchester Cancer Research Centre, the CAcTUS clinical trial shows how blood-based monitoring could support more personalised treatment decisions for patients with advanced melanoma.”
