Protecting Your Body’s Main Filter: Spotlight on Liver Cancer – Digestive Cancers Europe

Digestive Cancers Europe shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Your liver is your body’s main filter. It cleans your blood, aids digestion, and stores energy. When cancer develops in the liver, these vital functions are at risk.

The two most common types of primary liver cancer are:

  • Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC): starts in the main liver cells
  • Cholangiocarcinoma: begins in the bile ducts

Because liver cancer often shows no clear symptoms until it’s advanced, prevention and early detection are crucial.

There are steps that should be taken in order to protect the liver, such as getting vaccinated against hepatitis B, testing and treating hepatitis C, keeping up with regular checkups if you’re at risk, maintaining a healthy weight, limiting alcohol intake, avoiding smoking, and following healthy lifestyle habits.

This October, during Liver Cancer Awareness Month, we spotlight influential figures throughout history who have been diagnosed with this disease.

A powerful reminder that liver cancer can affect anyone and that awareness and action drive earlier detection and better outcomes.
