“The Reality of Improving Efficiency in Cancer Care: Why Are We Waiting?
Cancer incidence continues to rise, placing growing pressure on health systems and public finances.
We know the solution: investing in efficient, flexible, person-centered cancer care pathways. It’s not just about better patient experiences; it’s about getting better value for public investment and ensuring long-term system sustainability.
At yesterday’s parliamentary panel with Members of the European Parliament, we confirmed the facts: person-centered, flexible care consistently delivers the best outcomes for both patients and the system.
So, why isn’t it happening at scale?
The barriers are real:
- Inflexible and outdated financing mechanisms
- The inherent difficulty of wholesale organizational change
But here is the truth: We have the evidence. We have the technology. What we need now is the collective courage to make the choice to do things differently.
The Evidence is Here
The All.Can Person-Centered Care Report, “Implementing Person-Centred Cancer Care to Improve Outcomes, Experiences and Efficiency,” provides the exact blueprint we need. It arms us with the evidence required to advocate for this vital shift across all ecosystem stakeholders. Let’s move from conversation to implementation. (Link to report here.)
A huge thank you to my fellow speakers for the incredible insight: Prof Bettina Borisch, Caroline Berchet, Marc Van den Bulcke, Kostas Athanasakis; and to Alex Filicevas for your excellent moderation.”
