“The Cancer Elimination Collaboration was delighted yesterday to host a visit from Washington University in St. Louis’ Professor Graham Colditz, one of the world’s most eminent epidemiologists with a special interest in cancer control.
Graham and his colleague A/Prof. Shu Joy Jiang joined the CEC for a full day of roundtable discussions, either side of Graham’s lunchtime seminar for the Sydney School of Public Health on developments in breast cancer control. Graham’s seminar focused on new opportunities in identification of breast cancer risk factors, risk prediction models and imaging to classify levels of risk for individual women.
It tied in with Australia’s 10-year strategic framework for the national BreastScreen program, with its objective to ‘implement risk-stratified screening pathways to improve the early detection of breast cancer’ – following a review of the program catalysed by the federally funded Breast ROSA project, led by the CEC’s A/Prof. Carolyn Nickson (pictured at right with Graham and CEC head, Prof. Karen Canfell AC FAHMS Canfell AC).
A day wasn’t enough to discuss all our joint interests across the cancer control spectrum. We look forward to following up with Graham and Joy after they return to the US.”
