Karen Canfell: Excited to Launch the Cancer Elimination Collaboration to Achieve “50 by 50”

Karen Canfell, Chair, Cancer Screening and Immunisation Committee at Cancer Council Australia and Professor of Public Health at the University of Sydney, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“We are so excited to launch the Cancer Elimination Collaboration (CEC) within the Sydney School of Public Health. The CEC develops evidence and leverages partnerships to accelerate the elimination of all cancers.

Collaboration is the key, working with established partners and developing new relationships, integrating research with advocacy to fast-track cancer control evidence into practice.

We will map out a pathway to an ambitious 50% reduction in cancer mortality by 2050 (50 by 50) in Australia and continue working with international partners to promote global and regional ‘best buys’ in cancer control – saving, extending and improving as many lives as possible according to the strongest evidence.

Our incredible team – currently 45 staff and students – includes colleagues who have been together for many years and across different incarnations. It is a privilege to work with so many amazing, lovely, and super-talented people.

Thanks so much to our CEC leadership team and to all CEC staff and students.

And thanks so much to all at the University of Sydney who have supported our transition over the last year!

And to all our national collaborators (see website) and international collaborators and colleagues, thank you!”
