“Today the UN General Assembly adopted the Political Declaration of the 4th High-Level Meeting on NCDs and Mental Health. In a world where global health governance faces immense challenges, Member States negotiated a strong consensus on a game-changing set of targets and commitments for one of the defining health challenges of the 21st century.
I’m proud to have been part of the WHO team providing technical and policy support throughout the process—from early evidence review to zero drafts, from the September High-Level Meeting in New York to today’s adoption at the General Assembly.
With less than five years until 2030, I look forward to supporting our Member States in translating this roadmap into action.
I’m also looking forward to continued work on the Global Report on the Commercial Determinants of Health, which dovetails with this agenda—the Declaration’s focus on preventing conflicts of interest and addressing commercial factors across health-harming products, food and digital environments, and pollution makes that connection clear.”
