Juliane Winkler: My 6 Highlights From EACR 2026 in Budapest

Juliane Winkler, Group Leader at Center for Cancer Research at Medical University of Vienna, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“The last 4 days at EACR2026 in Budapest were a blast! Here are my 6 highlights – I was particularly excited to listen to so many outstanding talks from my junior female PI peers. So much cool and creative science – watch out for their soon-to-be-published work!

  • Leeat Keren is the one and only spatial protein profiling queen!
  • Efrat Shema showed fascinating epigenetic fingerprinting of aggressive breast cancer populations.
  • Karuna Ganesh introduced a novel explanation of why we see higher incidences of colorectal cancers in younger patients. A tour de force of patient data and creative organoid experiments.
  • Colinda Scheele showed beautiful optical barcoding lineage tracing of lymph node metastasis.
  • Kairbaan Hodivala-Dilke investigated racial disparities in breast cancer patients – one of the first carefully designed studies to investigate different patient outcomes in patients underrepresented in studies – super important work!
  • Christopher Tape (not female but still cool science) showed compelling work about phenoscaping perturbations in colorectal organoids in high throughput to discover novel therapeutic vulnerabilities.

My postdoc Eva Chrenková and I had a very busy poster session with so many people excited about our work. Now we are buzzing with motivation for our next experiments in our lab at the Center for Cancer Research of Medizinische Universität Wien!

Check out our latest preprint from Daphne Superville: Tumor Heterogeneity Induces Pro- and Anti-metastatic Myeloid Cell Phenotypes in Breast Cancer Lung Metastasis. and our recent publication in Nature Methods together with André Rendeiro.”
