Julia Ismael, Board Member – Board of Directors at Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), shared on LinkedIn:
“Why is cancer prevention falling short?
Despite remarkable scientific advances, the gap between innovation and population impact remains one of the greatest challenges in global cancer control.
I’m delighted to be joining London Global Cancer Week 2026, an international platform bringing together leaders, researchers, policymakers, and advocates to advance the global cancer agenda.
On November 4, I’ll be speaking about ‘Why Is Cancer Prevention Falling Short? Bridging the Gap Between Innovation and Population Impact.’
Drawing on my experience in Latin America, I’ll explore why scientific progress does not always translate into better population health outcomes, and what it takes to bridge that gap through effective policies, stronger health systems, and implementation strategies that leave no one behind.
Because innovation only becomes progress when it reaches people.
Looking forward to contributing to this important global conversation and reconnecting with colleagues committed to advancing cancer control worldwide.”
