Jordan Johnson: AI in Oncology: Hype, Hope, and Reality

Jordan Johnson, Founder and Principal at Bridge Oncology and Legal Data Expert, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“AI in Oncology: Hype, Hope, and Reality — Standing Room Only at AVBCC 2025

If you’re not on an AI highway to nirvana, you’re on an AI highway to hell.

Point solutions are not strategy — they’re landmines. They’ll leave you behind and buried under inefficiency, data chaos, and compliance risk. AI in oncology must be built with context, discipline, and a relentless focus on the human behind the data.

Failure to Plan is Planning to Fail when it comes to AI

This morning’s packed session brought the fire — and clarity — on what’s hype and what’s hope in cancer care:

  • Debra Patt, MD PhD MBA: ‘We’re taking the Ferraris (AI models) out on a dirt road and slowing them down.’
  • Douglas Flora, MD LSSBB: ‘Replace mundane with humane.’
  • Sanjay Juneja, MD: ‘Is this a solution to a pain point?’
  • Olalekan Ajayi, PharmD MBA FACCC: ‘AI (Artificial Intelligence) should not replace AI (Actual Intelligence).’
  • David Penberthy, MD MBA FACCC: ‘AI has already transformed RadOnc.’

I am proud to be on the core team that is on the forefront of what AI is and can do for Oncology and beyond!!!!

Just as important are the core group that are collaborating with us and rowing in the same direction for the good of everyone else.

More to come in the next few weeks!!!!!”

Douglas Flora, Executive Medical Director of Yung Family Cancer Center at St. Elizabeth Healthcare, President-Elect of the Association of Cancer Care Centers, and Editor in Chief of AI in Precision Oncology, shared this post, adding:

“Learning a ton at Association for Value-Based Cancer Care meeting in NYC. Thanks, Jordan, for leading a thoughtful discussion. Seema Verma, Scott Gottlieb, Mark Cuban all in one day—talking about the future of oncology—illuminating.

Great to connect with you so many of you this week. I always leave this meeting tired but inspired, and even more committed to rebooting cancer care. Progress is coming, and we are all better for it.”
