“In head and neck cancer, two randomized studies comparing IMRT and IMPT (proton TX) were published in Lancet this year. PTCOG64.
Both studies showed improvements in some acute side effects, and one study found overall survival benefits favoring IMPT. The controversial issue is how much better clinical outcomes need to be to justify the cost of IMPT.
