Senator Darlene Graham will be in Greenwood today. If we have a chance to speak with her, I hope we can emphasize how important it is to protect and strengthen NIH funding.
For some patients, a cancer diagnosis that once meant a death sentence now means years of survival – and sometimes a cure. That progress comes from research. Without it, we would not have immunotherapy, CAR – T therapy, or many of the treatments giving our patients hope today.
Industry – sponsored clinical trials are important, but independent, publicly funded research is essential. It allows us to ask questions beyond the development of a particular drug: which treatments work best, how to reduce side effects, and how to help patients whose needs remain unmet.
We need to support The National Institutes of Health because our patients need more than the treatments available today. They need the discoveries that will make tomorrow’s cures possible.
Cancer research is a bipartisan priority.”
