Joanna Metzner-Sadurski: Honored to Be Part of a 25-Year Journey in Rural Cancer Research

Joanna Metzner-Sadurski, President of Oncology101.org, Adjunct Professor at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine, shared on LinkedIn:

“Despite staffing challenges and the realities of rural oncology, we have started kept clinical trials moving forward for nearly 25 years.

This recognition means so much because it represents more than enrollment numbers. It represents persistence, teamwork, and a commitment to bringing NCI clinical trials closer to patients in our community.

Access is not just about having a trial open. Patients also need trust, education, navigation, and health literacy support so they can understand their diagnosis, their options, and what participation truly means.

I am deeply grateful to Matthew Logan, our CEO, for his vision and support of cancer services and clinical research at Self Regional Healthcare. I am also thankful to our MUSC NCORP team, including Dr. Dave Marshall, Tricia Bentz and Mike Laskavy for their partnership, leadership, and commitment to bringing clinical trials to community patients.

Most of all, I am grateful to our patients, our research team, and everyone who continues to believe that rural patients deserve access to the same opportunities in cancer care and research.”
