Joanna Metzner-Sadurski: Better Systems for Patients Start With Advocacy

Joanna Metzner-Sadurski, Medical Doctor at Self Regional Healthcare and Executive Director of Oncology101.org, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Such an energizing and meaningful meeting today ASCO CoP

Dr. Lee shared practical guidance on how physicians can get involved in AMA policy and advocacy through ASCO. Wade Swenson spoke about the importance of engagement at the state level and how local action truly shapes patient care. Ruiling Yuan highlighted the power of grassroots advocacy and how individual voices can drive real change.

I also had the opportunity to share my experience attending ASCOPAC for the first time – an eye-opening reminder that advocacy is not optional if we want better systems for our patients.

We closed with an honest discussion about burnout – how we recognize it, manage it, and support one another through it. Conversations like this matter. They remind us that leadership, advocacy, and well-being are all connected.
