- Burden: ~2.11M new cancer cases and ~626K deaths projected in the US (2026).
- Mortality: Cancer death rates ↓34% since the early 1990s, averting ~4.8M deaths.
- Survival: Overall 5-yr relative survival reached 70%(2015–2021), up from 49% in the mid-1970s.
- Advanced disease: 5-yr survival for distant-stage cancers improved 17% → 35%, with major gains in lung, melanoma, and rectal cancer.
- Unfinished work: Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer death.”
