“It was a privilege to congratulate Associate Professor Heather Thorne OAM on an extraordinary 50 years of service to Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.
Heather has dedicated her career to advancing our understanding of inherited cancer risk and improving the lives of families affected by cancer.
As the founding National Manager, Heather has spent almost three decades helping build the Kathleen Cuningham Foundation Consortium for Research into Familial Aspects of Breast Cancer (kConFab) into one of the world’s leading familial cancer research resources.
What struck me most was that after 50 years Heather remains as passionate and curious as ever. Her dedication to science, collaboration and the families at the heart of our work is an inspiration.
Heather is the longest serving of our more than 300 people celebrating length of service milestones at Peter Mac this year. It was a pleasure to gather with many of them yesterday for our annual celebration event.
Congratulations, Heather, on this remarkable milestone, and thank you.”
