“Today, I met with Ambassadors and Permanent Representatives to the Organization of American States to provide an overview of the upcoming 63rd Directing Council (28 September-1 October 2026), 78th Session of the Regional Committee for the Americas (1-2 October 2026) and the 179th Session of the Executive Committee (2 October 2026).
These important governance meetings will bring together Member States to review progress and take decisions on key public health priorities for the Region.
Among the topics to be considered are:
- Health emergency and risk management for health security
- Antimicrobial resistance
- Prevention and control of arboviral diseases
- Food safety
- PAHO’s Regional Revolving Funds
Member States will also receive progress reports on important regional initiatives, including:
- PAHO’s Disease Elimination Initiative
- One Health
- The Plan of Action for Cervical Cancer Prevention and Control 2018-2030
- The application of data science, artificial intelligence, and other emerging technologies in public health
In addition, briefing sessions during the Directing Council will address accelerating action in primary health care, advancing the Pan-American Highway for Digital Health, and catalytic investments to accelerate disease elimination in the Americas.
