Irene Cuervas Oliveras Receives the Odile Schweisguth Prize for Pediatric Oncology Research – Institut de Recerca Sant Joan de Déu

Institut de Recerca Sant Joan de Déu shared on LinkedIn:

“Postdoctoral researcher Irene Cuervas Oliveras, from the IRSJD Sarcoma and Neuroblastoma research group, has received the Odile Schweisguth Prize International Society of Paediatric Oncology – SIOP, one of the most prestigious international awards for early-career researchers in pediatric oncology.

The award recognizes a line of research focused on Ewing sarcoma that has yielded highly promising results in laboratory models using splicing inhibitor drugs, particularly indisulam.

Behind every scientific breakthrough lies a community that makes it possible. Support from families and collaboration with Policías por Valientes and SJD Grans Causes at Barcelona Children’s Hospital Sant Joan de Déu have been fundamental in driving this research.

The challenge now is to delve deeper into the preclinical phase and gather further evidence that could pave the way for future clinical applications.

This recognition also reflects the research talent growing at Sant Joan de Déu and the importance of continuing to drive research that transforms scientific knowledge into new therapeutic opportunities for children and adolescents with cancer.

Congratulations to Irene and the entire team that keeps this research moving forward, as well as to the families committed to continuing to support our work.”
