Humaid Al-Shamsi: Ellaine’s Last Day as Oncology Clinic Nurse at Burjeel Cancer Institute

Humaid Al-Shamsi, Chief Executive Officer at Burjeel Cancer Institute and Regional Director of Burjeel Oncology GCC at Burjeel Holdings, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Yesterday marked Ellaine’s last working day as our Burjeel Cancer Institute | BCI oncology clinic nurse.

For years, she has been an outstanding team member: kind, professional, and deeply dedicated. When she resigned, I asked if a salary increase would make her stay. Her reply was :

Thank you, Doctor, but my kids need me now. I have to go back home to the Philippines to take care of them.’

That simple, honest answer reminded me how many parents around the world live separated from their children – just to give them a better future – often at the heavy cost of missing precious years together.

I know this feeling all too well. For more than a year and a half, while completing my specialist training in Canada, I was away from my own young children. Those days apart left a lasting mark on me and taught me never to take the presence of family for granted. What seems ordinary to some – being there for bedtime stories, school events, or just daily hugs – is a dream so many parents hold dearly in their hearts.

Ellaine, thank you for everything you’ve given us. Wishing you and your beautiful young family all the love, joy, and togetherness you deserve in this new chapter. The door here will always remain open – if you ever wish to return, we would be happy to welcome you back.

To everyone reading this: if your loved ones are close by today, cherish every moment. Some blessings are only truly understood when we remember how much others long for them.”
