Hedley Lewis: UN Political Declaration Sets 60% Global Childhood Cancer Survival Target by 2030

Huge step forward for children with cancer!

At the end of 2025, world leaders adopted the UN Political Declaration on NCDs & Mental Health – and right in Paragraph 53 is this powerful commitment:

“Improve childhood cancer survival through scaling up interventions in order to achieve a survival rate of at least 60 per cent globally by 2030, as proposed by the Global Initiative for Childhood Cancer.”

This ensures childhood cancer is properly placed within the NCD and mental health framework for the first time.

It’s a real turning point as Governments have formally agreed to strengthen health systems so more children get diagnosed early, treated effectively, and supported fully… all with a clear, measurable target of at least 60% global survival by 2030.
