New York Budget Cuts Put Biomarker Testing at Risk for Medicaid Patients – Global Colon Cancer Association

Global Colon Cancer Association shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Severe budget cuts in New York were set to eliminate biomarker testing for Medicaid cancer patients. Vanessa Ghigliotty, CPN Ghigliotty and advocates from across the state went to Albany and fought it.

Biomarker testing tells oncologists which treatment will work for a specific patient’s cancer. Removing it from Medicaid coverage would have sent patients back to receiving treatments based on best guesses rather than molecular data.

This is the kind of advocacy that changes systems. And this is why organizations like the GI Cancers Alliance and GCCA exist: Knowing Is
Worth the Wait.”
