Ginny Mason: How the Inflammatory Breast Cancer Research Foundation Started in 1999

Ginny Mason, Executive Director of the Inflammatory Breast Cancer Research Foundation, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“I was so busy yesterday I missed posting about marking 32 years since being told I’d die in 12-18 months from inflammatory breast cancer.

Thankfully my Doctors contacted National Cancer Institute (NCI) who suggested trying neoadjuvant chemotherapy, a novel idea in 1994. I had massive doses of Adriamycin, Cytoxan and 5-Fu; mastectomy; then intensive radiation to the chest and axilla. Being triple negative, that was it. I got involved in local breast cancer advocacy then met others with IBC and we started Inflammatory Breast Cancer Research Foundation in 1999.

Grateful to use the experience to make a difference for others facing this crummy disease!”
