Gilberto Lopes, Chief of the Division of Medical Oncology at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, shared on X:
“Are minority patients unwilling to join lung cancer clinical trials – or are we failing to offer them opportunities? New pilot study in JCO Global Oncology tests culturally tailored trial education. Important findings.
At Moffitt, 30 Black and Hispanic/Latino patients received brief trial education videos in English or Spanish. Knowledge improved (P<0.001). Willingness rose from 73% to 86%. Encouraging – but uncontrolled.
Clinical-trial equity requires changing institutional processes – not only patient attitudes. Ask not just who enrolls, but who receives a meaningful opportunity to participate.”
