“I am honoured to participate as a speaker in the event ‘Ending discrimination against cancer survivors: There is life after cancer’, organised by the Women PACE group of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, taking place on 1 October 2026 in Strasbourg.
Cancer survivorship should not come with a lifetime penalty. Yet many survivors still face unfair financial discrimination long after treatment ends.
Bringing this discussion to the Council of Europe represents an important step in recognising that discrimination against cancer survivors is not only a health issue, but also a question of rights, equality and justice.
By placing discrimination after cancer within a human rights framework, the Council of Europe can help transform individual experiences of injustice into a broader European commitment to equality, dignity and legal protection.
This discussion also represents a meaningful introduction to the legal session of the High-Level Conference on the Right to be Forgotten as a Human Right, where legal experts will further explore how legal frameworks can better protect cancer survivors’ rights.
