”A New Chapter in My Medical Journey
One thing I have already started learning is that medicine feels very different when the patient is sitting in front of you.
We learn guidelines, protocols, investigations and treatment plans in textbooks. In clinical practice, there is much more to consider – the patient’s family, concerns, circumstances, where they have travelled from, and sometimes whether they can actually afford the treatment being recommended.
This becomes especially important in oncology. We now have targeted therapies, immunotherapy, molecular testing and many other advances, but making these treatments accessible and affordable to patients remains a real challenge.
As former American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) President Clifford Hudis said:
‘Sometimes our choices create financial hardships for patients.’
That reality becomes much clearer with every patient I meet.
It is also one of the reasons I chose Buddha Cancer Centre Pvt. Ltd. under the guidance of Dr. Arvind kumar – to learn in an environment focused on protocol-based cancer care, research, clinical trials, awareness and improving access to treatment.
I hope to keep learning and, in my own way, contribute to better cancer care in Bihar – particularly in early detection, evidence-based treatment and making quality care more accessible.
A new chapter begins – from studying medicine to practising it.”
