Filipe Coutinho: A Dedicated Session on the Participation of Older Adults in Clinical Trials

Filipe Coutinho, Medical Oncologist at the Local Health Unit of the Middle Ave and Young SIOG Governance 2024-2026, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“This morning, at the 22nd National Oncology Congress of the Portuguese Society of Oncology, the Geriatric Oncology Working Group (GTOG) held a dedicated session focused on one of the most pressing issues in contemporary oncology: the participation of older adults in clinical trials.

With contributions from Patricia Cavaco (ULS Lisboa), Nuno Sousa (AICIB), and Lissandra Dal Lago (Past-Chair EORTC Older Adult Council), we explored methodological challenges, real-world barriers to inclusion, and strategies to enhance the representation of this population, who comprise the majority of people living with cancer yet remain underrepresented in clinical research.

It was a session marked by scientific depth, multidisciplinary dialogue, and a clear commitment to advancing a more inclusive and demographically aligned approach to cancer care and research.

Our thanks to SPO for hosting this discussion space and to all colleagues who joined and contributed to the debate.”
