Esther Mwamikazi: The Unsung Heroes of Mission 2027

Esther Mwamikazi, Clinical mentor at Rwanda NCD Alliance, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“THE UNSUNG HEROES OF MISSION 2027( Final part )

In communities where fear, myths and misinformation about cervical and breast cancer are widespread ,community health workers are stepping in to provide accurate information, dispel misconceptions and empower the community with the knowledge and confidence they need to take practical steps for their health.

However the work is challenging. Some CHWs have to cover long distances to reach those in need in remote areas yet their dedication never fades , with limited time, resources they continue to educate ,mobilize women and follow up on them balancing it with their family responsibilities and their daily work.

We recognize their importance and support because of their efforts Rwanda is advancing in expanding access to cervical and breast cancer screening

There is awareness about cervical cancer ‘s cause prevention and symptoms, many precancerous lesions have been treated and many confirmed cervical and breast cancer cases are already receiving their treatments. Behind every number there is a human story – a mother screened, a life saved and a family preserved.

Such success extends beyond the Walls of the hospitals, they begin at home, conversations held by CHWs in village meetings.

If Rwanda achieves Mission 2027 it will be a victory for the leadership ,science above all the community health workers whose passion and commitment have turned a national vision into Reality.”
