“The Unsung heroes of a mission 2027 (Part 1)

Community health workers leading Rwanda’s fight against cervical cancer and breast cancer.

Cervical and breast cancer remains some of the most deadly diseases affecting Women worldwide ,especially in sub-saharan Africa where it is the leading cause of death among women. This is due to limited access to screening and treatment.

Here in Rwanda cervical cancer has been a silent killer of mothers, sisters and daughters for decades but today hope is rising.

The ministry of health has launched Mission 2027 an accelerated plan for the elimination of cervical cancer 3 years ahead of the global target set by the World Health Organization (WHO).

This mission is built on 3 pillars HPV vaccination for young girls by age 15, screenings for women and timely treatment for those who are at risk of having cervical cancer.

Consequently the Ministry of Health through Rwanda Biomedical Center and it’s partners has initiated the ‘WOMEN EARLY CANCER DETECTION’ program the initiative involves mass screening campaign across various districts where women are screened free of charge for cervical and breast cancer.

However Behind Rwanda‘s road to success in implementing mission 2027 stands the real driving force it’s committed dedicated Community health workers.”
