“Ministry of Health enters into landmark MoA with the Africa CDC for pooled procurement of medicines!
I am thrilled to announce that the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MHSS) and the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA), marking a significant step toward ensuring that essential medicines, equipment and vaccines are consistently available and affordable in Namibian health facilities.
The signing of this MoA forms part of ongoing interventions by the Ministry to strengthen supply systems and address gaps that have affected the availability of health commodities in the country.
At the heart of the partnership is making sure that when you go to a clinic or hospital, the medicines, equipment and vaccines you need are available. Through the African Pooled Procurement Mechanism (APPM), the collaboration will help buy health supplies at better prices and deliver them faster to health facilities across the country.
Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr. Esperance Luvindao, emphasized that this partnership is about people, saying,
“This agreement is about making sure that no clinic runs out of stock, no patient is delayed care, and no community is left behind. It connects procurement to the real needs of our people.”
Africa CDC Director General, Dr. Jean Kaseya, noted that working together means stronger health systems for all, stating:
“By pooling our buying power, we can get medicines and equipment to Namibia quicker, at a lower cost, and build systems that are ready for both daily needs and emergencies.”
The partnership will also train MHSS staff to better manage supplies so that health products reach communities on time and in good condition.”
