Eric Van Cutsem: Honored to Represent Belgium at the Scientific Meeting of IARC and WHO

Eric Van Cutsem, Medical Doctor, Professor of Medicine, Head of Digestive Oncology at Unversity Hospital Gasthuisberg, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Honored to represent Belgium last week as Scientific Council member at the Scientific Council Meeting of the IARC – International Agency for Research on Cancer / World Health Organization), hosted by the World Health Organization inLyon.

With global experts we review IARC’s scientific progress and help shape the strategic direction of cancer research worldwide. IARC leads strong research projects on cancer prevention, epidemiology and on detecting causes of cancer, with as goal reducing cancer burden worldwide. International and global collaboration to reduce the global cancer burden is therefore crucial.

Proud to contribute Belgium’s and KU Leuven and University Hospitals Leuven ‘s perspective to these critical conversations and to support efforts that advance evidence-based cancer research and policy at both regional and global levels.

Grateful for the opportunity to discuss and to learn under the leadership of Dr Elisabete Weiderpass, director of IARC, with many global colleagues, including my friend from Egypt Dr Hesham El Ghazaly.”
