Eric Bouffet: SIOP Honoring Two Remarkable Women For Their Work In Ethiopia

Eric Bouffet, Vice president of the French African Group of Paediatric Oncology, MD at The Hospital for Sick ChildrenMember of the Board of Director, shared a post on LinkedIn:

SIOP honoring two remarkable women for their work in Ethiopia
Some of you may remember my post in January following my visit to the parents’ house in Addis Ababa, where I was blown away by the wonderful welcome from children and their families.

Behind this initiative is Sara Ibrahim, a remarkable woman whose life is dedicated to caring for children coming from across Ethiopia to receive life-saving treatment. This week, SIOP is honoring Ms. Ibrahim for her outstanding work and its impact on more than 3,000 children and families. Well deserved, Sara—the world needs more people like you.
SIOP is also recognizing the exceptional contributions of Prof. Aziza Shad, Co-Founder and Medical Director of the ASLAN Project, which has had a transformative impact in Ethiopia.

Through the implementation of fellowship and nursing training programs—training 35 pediatric oncologists and hundreds of nurses—the development of a network of four centers and seven satellite units, and more recently, with support from the My Child Matters Program, a national pediatric neuro-oncology initiative has been established.
Congratulations to both Sara and Aziza on this well-deserved recognition of your extraordinary work.”
