Erdinç Nayır: Baseline Fatigue as a Predictor of Severe Toxicity in Cancer Treatment

Erdinç Nayır, Associate Professor of Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology at VM Medicalpark Mersin Hospital, shared  a post on X:

Baseline fatigue matters in cancer care

Baseline fatigue predicts higher treatment toxicity.

7,086 patients (17 phase II–III trials)

With baseline fatigue:

  • ~2× higher risk of severe toxicity
  • ↑ life-threatening toxicity
  • ↑ treatment-related death

More fatigue = more risk → Up to 5× higher fatal toxicity

Clinical message: Baseline fatigue may be a simple, powerful risk marker before starting cancer treatment.”
