“It is with great sadness that EORTC was informed that Dr Vaseeharan Sathiyamoorthy, passed away suddenly on 30 August 2026.
EORTC had established links with the WHO thanks to the Global Clinical Trial Forum which Vasee led with passion and energy.
The WHA 75.8 resolution is also a major legacy that Vasee leaves to the clinical trialists’ community. His pragmatic vision for therapeutic progress through common sense and patient oriented clinical trials was truly inspirational.
EORTC has had the privilege earlier this year to welcome Vasee at the occasion of a brainstorming for global independent cancer clinical trials which will give rise to a specific Lancet Oncology Commission.
As a respected figure, his views and advice have helped structuring the initiative, which will also be part of his legacy.
Vasee will be missed by our community, but we know by many other communities as well. Our thoughts are with his family as we all try painfully to go through this sad reality.”
