Emmanouil Saloustros: 8th Hellenic Congress of Oncology Opens in Thessaloniki

Emmanouil Saloustros, President of the Board of Directors ΕΟΠΕ – HeSMO and Associate Professor of Oncology at University of Thessaly, shared a post by ΕΟΠΕ – HeSMO  on LinkedIn, adding:

“It is with great pleasure and honor, on behalf of the Board of Directors of the Hellenic Society of Medical Oncology (EOPE), that I announce the opening of the 8th Hellenic Congress of Oncology (ESO), on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, in Thessaloniki.

Our conference, co-organized with the Hellenic Society of Radiation Oncology and under the auspices of the European Society for Medical Oncology, is the leading scientific event of oncology in our country. With the central message ‘Active Participation – A Decisive Contribution to Progress‘, it highlights the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and the dynamic presence of the Greek oncology community on the international scientific scene.

Particular emphasis is placed this year on health policy discussions, with targeted sessions addressing critical issues such as equal patient access to innovative and established treatments, the sustainability of the health system, the integration of biomarkers into daily clinical practice, as well as the development of palliative care structures. At the same time, the challenges of compensation, approval procedures and the rational use of resources will be discussed, with the participation of all stakeholders involved.

Greek oncologists actively participate in international clinical studies and contribute substantially to the formation of modern therapeutic standards. The 8th DAG is a powerful reminder that progress in oncology is the result of collective effort, scientific evidence, and meaningful policy dialogue.

We invite you to actively participate in this important meeting of knowledge, exchange of experiences and shaping developments – both at the scientific and health policy levels.
