A lung cancer diagnosis is a life-changing moment. Beyond the disease itself, patients and families often face a complex journey through tests, appointments, treatment decisions and healthcare systems.
On World Lung Cancer Day, the Patient Navigation Consensus Statement: Improving Care and Outcomes in Lung Cancer highlights the need for coordinated support throughout the cancer journey.
WHAT is Patient Navigation?
A structured approach that helps patients, families and caregivers understand their options, coordinate care and overcome practical, informational and psychosocial barriers.
WHY does it matter?
Because high-quality cancer care is not only about access to the right treatment. It is also about ensuring that people receive the guidance, continuity and support they need for better outcomes and a more supported care experience.
ELLOK’s commitment
Both as the Hellenic Cancer Federation (ELLOK) and as the Hellenic Cancer Mission Hub, we are proud to have contributed to this international initiative. It builds on our longstanding work to strengthen coordinated and person-centred cancer care in Greece, including through national policy dialogues on lung cancer and our ongoing collaboration with healthcare professionals, academic partners and stakeholders.
The goal is clear:
Patient Navigation should become an integral part of equitable cancer care, so that patients, their families and their carers are not left to find their way alone.
