“Announcing the Cardio-Oncology Partnership (Sympraxis): A Joint Initiative of HeSMO, Hellenic Society of Cardiology and Hellenic Cancer Federation – ELLOK
We are proud to announce the official launch of the Cardio-Oncology Partnership, a joint initiative of the Hellenic Society of Medical Oncology (ΕΟΠΕ – HeSMO), the Hellenic Society of Cardiology (HSC) and the Hellenic Cancer Federation – ELLOK, Hellenic Cancer Mission Hub.
Cancer care is no longer defined solely by treating the disease. It is increasingly about preserving long-term health and quality of life. Protecting cardiovascular health throughout the cancer journey has therefore become an essential component of modern oncology.
The Partnership aligns with the objectives of Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan, the EU Cancer Mission and the Safe Hearts initiative, while also supporting Greece’s growing emphasis on prevention and early detection, reflected in national initiatives such as the ” Prolamvano” (Prevent) preventive screening programme.
Our shared ambition is to develop integrated cardio-oncology care pathways that place prevention at the centre of care, connecting
- Primary prevention and healthy lifestyles
- Early cardiovascular risk assessment
- Risk stratification before and during cancer treatment
- Multidisciplinary management
- Long-term survivorship and cardiovascular follow-up
An additional objective of the Partnership is to promote interdisciplinary education and knowledge exchange, facilitating the dissemination and implementation of evidence-based cardio-oncology practices across the national healthcare system.
A defining strength of this initiative is the partnership between healthcare professionals and the patient community. By bringing together oncologists, cardiologists and patient advocates, we aim to co-design more integrated, patient-centred models of care that reflect not only scientific evidence but also patients’ needs, experiences and priorities.
True innovation is not only about developing new treatments, it is also about preventing complications, preserving long-term health and designing care pathways together with patients.
Together, we believe that prevention, early detection, innovation and collaboration are the foundations of sustainable cancer care. We look forward to working with all our partners to help shape the future of cardiology and oncology collaboration in Greece.”
