Elizabeth Mittendorf, President of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, Division Chief of Breast Surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Chief of Multi-Disciplinary Oncology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“I recently had the privilege of participating in the AACR/ASCO Methods in Clinical Cancer Research Workshop, where 80 talented trainees and early-career investigators spent an intensive week transforming promising scientific ideas into thoughtfully designed clinical trial protocols.
Another example of the importance of the team – each attendee was part of a group of experienced clinical investigators, a biostatistician, and a patient advocate who shared a single purpose: helping the next generation of clinical researchers develop stronger, more impactful trials.
As I’m emphasizing with my ASCO Presidential theme—Intentional Teams. Exceptional Care—our greatest advances occur when we bring together people with complementary expertise around a common mission. This workshop is a wonderful example of team science in action. The collaboration, thoughtful discussion, mentorship, and shared commitment to improving the lives of people with cancer were inspiring to witness.
I also want to recognize and thank the outstanding staff from American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the American Association for Cancer Research. Their work leading up to and during the Workshop facilitated a special week for the faculty and learners alike.
To the learners: thank you for your curiosity, creativity, and commitment to advancing cancer care. I look forward to watching your ideas become the clinical trials of tomorrow.”
