Saving Lives Through Dual Screening for Women’s Cancers – Elekta Foundation

“‘I had breast cancer but didn´t know it’.

The words from Mukarugaba Xavera capture why our ‘Increase Awareness and Prevention Program – Women’s integrated cancer care’ is so vital.

Some years ago, Elekta Foundation introduced dual screening – meaning that when a woman is screened for cervical cancer, she also receives a breast cancer screening.

In low-resource settings, this approach makes it possible to detect breast cancer early and ensure timely treatment. Nurses and midwives are trained to perform clinical breast examinations (CBE), and if something abnormal is discovered, women are referred for ultrasound and biopsy.

This simple, integrated approach means many women can be diagnosed at a much earlier stage – saving lives.

Because when it comes to women’s cancers, one thing is clear: screening and early detection are key.

Join us in making integrated cancer care accessible for all women.”
