“Real growth requires discomfort: if we never test our limits, we never discover how much more we’re capable of.
I recently had the privilege of visiting University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein’s Breast Centre led by Prof. Achim Rody and Prof. Dr. Maggie Banys-Paluchowski (a long-time collaborator and dear friend from the EUBREAST family, which made it especially meaningful).
I came to learn about breast ultrasound (in and out of the operating room), multidisciplinary decision-making, and the German breast cancer patient pathway. A special thank you to Dr. Fabian Kohls for his time, availability, and generous skills and knowledge-sharing throughout the week.
But I’m leaving with much more:
- Build your network consistently – treat people like family
- Find mentors who challenge and support you
- Stay curious, stay adventurous, and remain authentically you
Meaningful relationships aren’t built in occasional meetings – they grow through trust, generosity, and showing up.
A heartfelt thank you to Prof. Rody, Prof. Dr. Maggie Banys-Paluchowski, and the entire clinical and administrative team for their teaching, help, support, warm welcome, and friendship. Their openness and generosity made this visit both professionally valuable and personally meaningful!
I return home grateful for the teaching, the openness, and the friendship – with sharper questions, and an even stronger commitment to patient-centred breast cancer care.”
