“Every Year, WHO’s Leadership Will Stand Up in Public and Report” – Dr. Gevorg Tamamyan

Dr Gevorg Tamamyan, Candidate for WHO Director-General, Professor and Chairman of the Department of Pediatric Oncology and Hematology at Yerevan State Medical University and Editor-in-Chief of OncoDaily, shared his vision for transparency and accountability at WHO, including annual public reporting on commitments and results.

“WHO must remain the most trusted partner in global health. Trust is built on transparency and accountability.

At the Pediatric Cancer and Blood Disorders Center of Armenia, we set a tradition. Every year on 15 February, International Childhood Cancer Day, I reported publicly as Head of the Center: what we committed to the year before, what we delivered, what we did not and why, and what we commit to next.

We will do the same at World Health Organization. Every year, WHO’s leadership, DG and ADGs, will stand up in public and report: here is what we promised, here is what we delivered. The Executive Board will have what it needs to hold us accountable.

Every year, we will also survey Member States on their satisfaction with WHO’s work, and present the results to the Executive Board.

Grateful to Peter Singer for a generous and challenging conversation on results and accountability at WHO. Always enjoy reading his Global Health Insights.”
