Dégi László Csaba: My Last European Cancer Summit as ECO President

Dégi László Csaba, Full Professor at UBB, ECO President, IPOS Secretary, Ombudsman, APSCO President, and FSAS Ph.D. Director, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“What an inspiring week in Brussels!

We began with an Executive Committee meeting, followed by the Board Meeting and the General Assembly of the European Cancer Organisation. We then came together for this year’s ECO Summit. With more than 600 participants and 78 speakers from 44 countries, this edition was one of our most international to date. The sessions, conversations, and meetings offered valuable insights and renewed motivation for our shared mission. The week concluded with a meeting of the ECHoS | Establishing of Cancer Mission Hubs: Networks and Synergies project, which supports the development of Cancer Mission Hubs at national, regional, and local levels.

This year’s Summit was also special to me personally, as it was my last one as ECO President. Looking back on the past two years, I feel proud of what we have achieved together. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the ECO team, whose dedication and professionalism ensured that the Summit ran smoothly from start to finish. Throughout my presidency, I deeply believed in shared leadership, and I was fortunate to work with a team of 30 colleagues and our network of around 100 volunteer experts who embraced this approach with openness and trust.

Although I am stepping down as ECO President, this is not a goodbye. Starting next year, I will continue to serve both as a Board Member of the European Cancer Organisation and as Chair of the European Cancer Community Foundation. I look forward to continuing this work with an organisation that shares the same values and is deeply committed to saving lives and improving the well-being of everyone affected by cancer, regardless of gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, income level, or geographic location.

Let’s continue working together for the cancer community!”
