Debra Montague, President of Lung Cancer Europe, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Wow what a week! Left the UK last Sunday to host the inaugural Lung Cancer Europe conference in Vienna – with 150 members, special guest and speakers.
3 Advisory Boards successfully delivered on ALK+, EGFR+ and SCLC on Tuesday. Wednesday saw us gathered with all our members for the Annual General Meeting, where 3 new board members were voted in so we now have a full board for the 1st time in many years.
The conference opened on Wednesday afternoon and we had an extra special guest join us for our drinks reception and dinner Edward Hilsum – an amazing magician who kept everyone enthralled. Then two days of science, policy and patient focussed discussions, along with a series of presentations from some of our members celebrating the amazing initiatives they have developed for the benefit of people affected by lung cancer, in their host countries.
Dinner on Friday evening was in honour of the one and only Lavinia Magee who stepped from from the board after 6 yrs of devotion to the organisation. Now it’s time for her to enjoy her retirement.
We held our 1st board meeting with the new board on Saturday morning and then we had 1/2 day to see something of Vienna.
So in order, we ate Mozarttorte in Aida (the oldest cafe in Vienna), we shopped in Zara (had to be done), followed by a sightseeing tour in a Chitty Chitty Bang Bang car sipping champagne along the way (thanks Emma Britton for the inspiration).
Then a trip to H&M (to keep my VP happy) and then on the Belvedere Museum to see The Kiss (again to keep my VP happy but so pleased I did). Then a quick dash back to the hotel to pack before heading out to dinner Joyce Restaurant for Korean Fusion – delicious. We then went on to the Votivkirche for the most amazing light show to the music of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons.
Finally fell into bed at 11.30pm for a 7am alarm call.”
