“What an incredible momentum at the 4th American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) AIOM | Associazione Italiana di Oncologia Medica in Rome this weekend!
Collaborating with young oncologists from across the globe provided a vital deep dive into the technicalities of clinical trial design and critical appraisal.
These aren’t just academic exercise, they are the tools we need to ensure that the next generation of cancer research translates into real patient benefits!
A central theme of our discussions was the mission of Common Sense Oncology.
As we advance in our careers, we must prioritize:
Meaningful Outcomes:
- Shifting the focus toward survival and quality of life over surrogate endpoints.
- Critical Evidence: Rigorously questioning, framing and reporting the magnitude of benefit in new treatments.
Global Access: Bridging the gap in cancer care equity worldwide.
Call to action: To my colleagues in the field, let’s commit to research that is as clinically relevant as it is innovative. We owe it to our patients to lead with evidence and common sense!
