“CU Anschutz just received clearance to launch a clinical trial of a new CAR T-cell therapy for adults with advanced colorectal cancer and children with solid cancers who have exhausted standard treatment options. Developed by our researchers and manufactured at Gates Biomanufacturing Facility at CU Anschutz, the therapy engineers patients’ immune cells to target two pathways that help solid tumors survive and spread.
For patients with few options left, the goal is a more targeted treatment that could produce longer-lasting results.
‘Immunotherapy gives us the opportunity to direct the immune system toward the cancer and potentially produce a much more durable response,’
said Christopher Lieu, who is leading the trial.
