Shalini V. Rao Will Join the CRUK Scotland Institute in early 2027 as a Junior Group Leader

Cancer Research UK Scotland Institute shared on LinkedIn:

“We are excited to share that Dr Shalini V. Rao will join the CRUK Scotland Institute in early 2027 as a Junior Group Leader.

The Rao Lab will study how transcription factor networks and chromatin regulation control epithelial cell identity.

Her team will focus particularly on the earliest molecular events of tumour development and how the breakdown of transcriptional programmes fuels tumour evolution and cellular plasticity.

Shalini undertook her PhD at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and subsequently joined Prof Jason Carroll’s laboratory at the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute, University of Cambridge, for her postdoctoral training.

Supported by a Pancreatic Cancer UK Early Career Fellowship, her research has uncovered transcriptional and epigenetic mechanisms that regulate pancreatic cancer cell identity, plasticity and metastatic progression.

At the Institute, Shalini will bring expertise in transcription factor biology, functional genomics, proteomics, single-cell technologies and advanced in vivo models.

Her laboratory will use these approaches to uncover the regulatory mechanisms driving early tumour development and identify new biomarkers and therapeutic vulnerabilities.”

To which Shalini V. Rao, Senior Research Associate at University of Cambridge, added:

“Excited to be joining the Cancer Research UK Scotland Institute in early 2027 and setting up the Rao Lab!

I am looking forward to working alongside fantastic colleagues as we explore how transcription factor networks and chromatin regulation shape cell identity during early tumour development.

We are hiring!

More details about opportunities to join the team will follow soon-watch this space!”
