Carolyn Taylor, Founder and Executive Director of Global Focus on Cancer (GFC), shared a post on LinkedIn:
“In 2010, I took this photograph in the cervical cancer ward at Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital. It was never meant to be about publication or recognition, it was about bearing witness to women navigating cancer within a system stretched thin, with dignity, resilience, and care for one another.
I never could have imagined that 15 years later this image would appear on the cover of The Lancet Regional Health – Western Pacific, alongside my contribution as a co-author to two articles on cancer survivorship in the region.
Survivorship is not only about living longer.
It is about being seen, supported, and understood.
This moment belongs to the women in that ward, and to everyone working to ensure survivorship is treated as a core part of cancer care, not an afterthought.”
